1.  Father, As your Son was raised on the cross, His Mother Mary stood by Him, sharing His suffering.  May she, who is also our spiritual Mother and Patroness in Heaven, help us to find renewed strength at the cross of Christ and so come to share in His rising to new life, where He lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.  Amen.

2.  Seven Sorrows of Mary

    Presentation


   1.  A
nd Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary his mother, "Behold, this child is destined for the fall and for the rise of many in Israel, and for a sign that shall be contradicted.  And thy own soul a sword shall pierce, that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed."  (Luke 2:34-35)

 

     Flight to Egypt

 

     2.  . . . an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph, saying, "Arise, and take the child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and remain there until I tell you.  For Herod will seek the child to destroy him"  So he arose, and took the child and his mother by night, and withdrew into Egypt.  (Matthew 2:13-14)

    3.  And when they saw him, they were astonished.  And his mother said to him, "Son, why hast thou done so to us?  Behold, in sorrow thy father and I have been seeking thee."  And he said to them, "How is it that you sought me?  Did you not know that I must be about my Father's business?"  (Luke 2:48-49)

    The Crucifixion

   
   5.  Now there were standing by the cross of Jesus his mother and his mother's sister, Mary of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.  When Jesus, saw his mother and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he said to his mother, "Woman, behold, thy son."  When he said to the disciple, "Behold, thy mother."  And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.  After this Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, "I thirst."  therefore, when Jesus had taken the wine, he said, "It is consummated!"  and bowing his head, he gave up his spirit.  (John 25-28, 30)

    6.  There was a man named Joseph, a councillor, a good and just man-he had not been party to their plan of action-of Arimathea, a town of Judea, who was himself looking for the kingdom of God.  He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.  And he took him down, and wrapped him in a linen cloth, and laid him in a rockhewn tomb where no one had ever yet been laid.  (Luke 23:50-53)
